Developers to chip in for Vic suburb

Developers and landowners will have to give the Victorian government more than $16,000 for every dwelling in a new suburb on the edge of Melbourne's CBD.

A new train station is being built next to North Melbourne AFL club's home ground, opening up huge development opportunities in the new suburb of Macaulay.

Planning Minister Richard Wynne on Sunday announced developers and landowners will have to pay $16,127 for a dwelling, and $182 per square metre of new commercial floor area, as a contribution for the value windfall they will receive when the station is finished.
