Home prices up but growth slows

Home prices across Australia's capital cities have edged higher over the September quarter but the growth rate is slowing, influenced by Sydney's housing market where capital gains have stalled.

Home values across the combined capital cities rose 0.7 per cent over the September quarter but were significantly lower compared to the quarter-on-quarter peak of 3.5 per cent recorded in the three months to December 2016, figures from property data group Corelogic show.

Sydney's home prices rose 0.2 per cent over the quarter but sank 0.1 per cent over the month, the first month-on-month decline following 17 months of consistent capital gains.
